Dear Sanjay,

I am Aparajita Tripathi, working as a software developer(Technical Associate TG-1) in Tech Mahindra in BT-01 (Avalon Dev).

I joined TechM as an ITPian on 13th July 2007 at Noida and was shifted to Mumbai on 13th November 2007. I had resigned on 9th July and today is my last day in TechM.

I am quitting because I aim to study management in IIM Ahmedabad only. Last year I had appeared for CAT and secured 99.7 percentile, topping the country in verbal with 100 percentile. I am quitting because the kind of work that is the project requirement (16 hours a day, weekend working) leaves me no scope to study and concentrate on my aim. I was and am a dedicated employee and hence never refused any work but I realized it was deviating me from what I wished to achieve. As such, I have decided to leave. However, these are things which I would like to tell you before I leave.

As per a vague company policy, I am INELIGIBLE for my Variable pay for the last quarter, which incidentally lies OUTSIDE my resignation period and during which I have worked in double shifts.

During the last two years, I have worked diligently, stretching the definition of a ‘24*7’ timeline. I have been awarded with A cookie and The Rising Star in this duration. My ratings for the last two years have been “Very Good” and “Outstanding”.  I have worked on key billing requirements for one of the most esteemed customers of TechM (BT) like DRP &VAT Rate change and delivered in record time. I was found in office at all unearthly hours. My seniors/peers will concur that I never let time, or illness, or food meddle with the work I put in. In the last quarter I worked in double shifts, both as a developer and as a support. Most of my peers in the team work like this, but they choose not to speak out.

I have never asked for onsite or allowance or comp off. And now, when it is time to go, I am being denied my basic right- the right to the payment for the work I have done.

You could say it is a ‘company policy’ to strike off the variable pay if one is in the notice period. Well then, shouldn’t the company follow strict timelines in this regard? Since it is the payment for the last quarter, should it not have been disbursed during the last quarter itself? Just because the company chose to delay the whole process, I now happen to come within the purview of such a Draconian policy.

It doesn’t matter whatever the amount is. This policy speaks volumes about the carelessness of the company w.r.t its employees. As such, no matter how many Gallup surveys you take, your employee satisfaction index will be a measly 2.7 and less as it has always been. Policies such as these bring down the employee satisfaction index to an all time low. As it is, people aren’t too happy about the exceedingly delayed increment letters. Examples such as mine, when added to employees’ mood aren’t going to build up any employee morale either. A common refrain among good resources who have left this company is that the company just doesn’t treat its employees well.

By aiming at a CSAT of 5, the employees are so committed that if there is work then the employees don’t mind sitting all night long, or turning up at odd hours but to achieve that shouldn’t the company also take care of its employees?

In fact, Look at another point. Appraisal process had started in March and by April end it was complete and yet till today, (August), we haven’t got our increment letters. Just because the company decides to waste more than half the year in its appraisal program, we employees are deprived of our increment which is the outcome of the work we have put in.

All this can be easily answered in one line. “Company Policy”, but isn’t this INJUSTICE disguised as company policy?

I hope this letter is not forwarded to the Trash folder and does stir some thoughts in the management. I have worked for Tech M sincerely and have always wanted the best for it. I believe that the management of Tech M is equally committed to its employees and sees them as assets and not just as resources. A small gesture (even if late) can do a world of good for the morale of the staff and I would like to quit with a heavy heart for having worked so diligently and carry with me fond memories of this place rather than leave as a disgruntled and dissatisfied soul

I have learnt a lot from the company and would be available in case I can add value to the company. Hence if ever need be, I can be reached at 9987587985 and at tripathi.aparajita@gmail.com
